Catch me if you can
I’m a woman born from a divine plan
Yes, catch me if you can
Many tried to bind my dreams
But I invented paths, streams
Whereby my energies would flow
And melt the chains of bondage, watch me go
I’m older than Medusa, Cleopatra, I have no age
I come as a healer, a griot, a sage…
One hand can’t clap, this I know
I and my kinfolk have always known it so
Catch me if you can
I’m a woman, black as the night
That shields me from capture
Keeps me to the path, lit by a star
I run fast, I walk far…far
Catch me if you can
As I steal away to meet my man
And give him all the love I can
For an hour or so, and walk back again
To fight a torture, beating, pain
But next week, I’ll do it all again
For I’m a woman in love with life
And I will live to see all slavery done
Then we can all have fun/ ‘til then…
Catch me if you can
